Online dating.. does it really lead to a genuine relationship?
I don’t ask for myself I am married. My brother in law is looking online for someone. I know there are free dating websites such as plentyoffish and others you have to pay for and in the past there even existed marriage bureaus where you had to pay a certain amount of money.. quite a lot.. and you would get addresses and photos of people .. they would be sent to you according to a sheet you filled in with your special characteristics and personality.. and your hobbies.. but I wonder.. how many people ever really found their true love via the internet..Didn’t most of us who found someone meet that person elsewhere and only a minority meets a partner for life on the internet. It is convenient of course to look for someone on the internet but I have the feeling that dating on the net leads more to casual relationships or flings rather than for long term lasting ones. We can shop online, work online, talk to friends online. Listen to music or the news online but I believe for certain things it is better to get away from the computer and just go out there and try to find someone by chance.. by joining a club of a different kind maybe.. am I wrong or did a lot of you meet a partner for life online??? I just wonder if it’s different for males as my brother in law is looking and he is 46.. never lived with a woman.. is set in his ways a bit.. He lives in the UK . my Husband and I live in Canada. My husband is British of course like his brother..we have been married 20 years.. but we didn’t meet via the internet.. x

Well I have had several relationships with women I met online. I married one of them but it didnt turn out so well. But I dont blame that on the internet. I am currently dating a woman I met online & we are having a blast. I meet almost no eligible women through my work & dont like to hang out in bars etc so it seems to work for me. I am 50 and am on eHarmony. Its more expensive and it seems to have a lot of overweight women on it too. I think I like Match.com better. But on Match your picture is out there for the whole world to see. On eHarmony only the matches they pick for you see them. But you can choose not to post a picture. But I wouldnt communicate with someone without a picture and I think most people are the same way. Some people will tell you that only loosers and freaks and guys looking for sex are online. Thats not true I have a great career & I have met lots of very successful women that are sincere and honest. I have also met a few nuts. Hope this helps.

Well, I do believe Online Dating works especially in today’s busy times when you don’t have the time, energy and money to waste on "potential" relationships which eventually bear no fruit. I’ve had tremendous success with online dating in the past and can share some secrets for your brother in law – you can copy paste it:
1. Don’t be "serious" and "desperate" when looking for an online date. It should be all in the spirit of fun and no hard feelings. Don’t attach too much importance to the person you’re chatting with. If it has to work out, it will work out. Otherwise, you’ve built yourself a successful social network.
Myspace, Facebook, Orkut, Hi5 are popular social networking sites to get to know LOTS of people of the opposite sex for free.
2. Develop friendship based on "common situations" and "common mutual interests". Keep romance out of it for a while.
3. Read some good books on impressing women if it works for you. Otherwise, be a natural.
4. Let’s remember many "women" in chatrooms happen to be men
Also, if they claim to be beautiful and even show pictures, don’t fall for that. Unless you’ve actually met the person, "do not fall in love". Save it for the later.

Is a very different world we living now,and internet is part of that to. As you sad in your text we use internet in our day-to-day life,and why not finding a relationship to ??? My grand-parents did not found love in internet,but they did get divorce 2/3 ago. My-self the same. I don`t think that is important how you meet someone,but the person you have on front of you. CIAO…

yes and no. i havent been so lucky as to find a serious relationship online but my girlfriend did and married this man and has been married for several years now and is very happy;, but she does drink a whole lot.

I think people will try anything to find love! It can work i guess but you have to meet the person and that is when you know if it worked.
